LISTEN: Deputy Assistant to the President, Dr. Sebastian Gorka, joins the show.

PHOENIX — A White House staff member said Wednesday that President Donald Trump did a great job in getting his message across during a speech to a joint session of Congress.

“I think the president got his message across on everything,” Deputy Assistant to the President Sebastian Gorka told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Arizona’s Morning News.

“Even the left wing media is admitting that it was the best speech Donald Trump has given and it was a barnstorming speech.”

Gorka said Trump’s speech made his stance clear on several topics, including Gorka’s specialty of national security.

“The president of the United States said our enemy is radical Islamic terrorism,” he said. “There’s no way to pass that phrase. He’s sticking to his guns and we are not going to have political correctness drive our threat assessment as it has the last eight years.”

Gorka said the speech also served as a means for Trump to refute the idea that the White House is not unified.

“You’ve read all kinds of fake news reporting about how there’s tension in the White House and there’s disagreement on the threat perception – that fake news was blasted out of the water last night. He was unequivocal,” Gorka said of Trump.

But Gorka also said Trump used the speech to reinforce the idea that he is a president for all Americans, specifically citing the third line of the speech when Trump denounced a recent string of threats on Jewish community centers and other anti-Semitic rhetoric.

“It is hugely important that that is what the president started with because it reinforces everything he said from the very day he became our president,”Gorka said. “He is the president for all Americans. Whatever face they have doesn’t matter and they are to be protected by this administration.”

Gorka wasn’t the only White House staffer who enjoyed the speech and said he would go out of his way to thank the writers.

“When I see the people who helped with writing the speech I’m going to shake their hands,” he said.
