PHOENIX — It may be a little wet outside, but that won’t stop several Phoenix-area bars and restaurants from celebrating Mardi Gras on Tuesday.
Known as Fat Tuesday in English, Mardi Gras refers to the last night of eating fat and rich foods before the season of Lent, an approximate six-week period of prayer, self-denial and other religious practices observed by Christians that ends on Easter Sunday.
But Mardi Gras has also become synonymous with one of the biggest and best parties of the year in places such as New Orleans and Brazil. Numerous other nations hold their own versions of the festivities.
Just because you’re stuck in rainy Phoenix on Fat Tuesday doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the fun. We jumped online and found some celebrations going on around town along with some spots to grab traditional Mardi Gras or New Orleans-inspired food to mark the day.
