PHOENIX — Bust out your summer clothing: Friday marked the second day in a row that the Phoenix area has seen an 80-degree day in 2017, according to the National Weather Service.

The milestone was reached late Friday afternoon, when Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, the weather service’s official reporting site for the city. reported a high of 83 degrees on Friday.

The airport marked its first 80-plus degree day of 2017 on Thursday, with a high of 82 degrees. The hottest temperature recorded in Phoenix on Feb. 9 was set last year, when the city hit 86 degrees.

Austin Jamison with the weather service said February temperatures in the mid-80s are not a rarity in the Valley.

“It’s not unheard of at all to get into the 80s in February,” he said. “It still is a little early. We’ll be within two or three degrees of the record, so it’s definitely a good 10 degrees above normal.”

This week’s warm weather was expected to stick around through Friday before a storm front moves in, bringing a chance of rain and cooler temperatures during the weekend.

Saturday’s high is expected to be about 70 degrees, while Sunday’s is just 64. Lows will also fall. Overnight temps are expected to drop into the upper 40s by Sunday night.
