First 100 days?! Try the first 100 hours of President Donald Trump

I’ve gone rogue.

I was asked to write a piece for KTAR.com about the first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s administration and I’m refusing to do it.

I think I have a perfectly reasonable excuse to not.

While “the first 100 days” might not be the most original concept, I didn’t refuse to write about the idea outright. I was given a lot of leeway as to how I could approach it: I could write about what I thought should, would or even what I thought shouldn’t happen in the first 100 days.

As hard as it is for some folks to believe, I don’t have media overlords hovering about telling me what to say as they plug me, via electrodes, into the liberal-thinking machine.

I’m also not refusing to write about the first 100 days as some kind of rebel move inspired by Trump – “a president who’s doing things like no other president!”

Nope. I’m simply defying KTAR management for the purely selfish reason of self-preservation.

That’s because the pace at which Trump has already taken action would be almost impossible to keep up over the course of 100 days. Or should I say keep up with, because while Donald Trump may be able to keep plowing forward to make America great again, little ol’ me, using my two forefingers on a keyboard, trying to make sense of it, cannot.

Before you think me lazy, let’s review what’s happened so far:

Trump issued an executive order that tells federal agencies to grant exemptions or delay Obamacare provisions wherever they legally can.

He’s issued two memoranda dealing with business regulations. One freezes new or pending regulations and the other asks the secretary of commerce for a plan on how to streamline the permitting process for building manufacturing facilities.

Trump withdrew from the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

He ordered a federal government hiring freeze (with exceptions made for the military and critical public safety jobs).

The new president cleared hurdles to the Dakota Access and the Keystone XL pipelines. But only if steel from American factories is used.

He started the wheels rolling on his illegal immigration agenda with executive orders on a border wall and sanctuary cities.

Trump instituted a ban on federal money going to groups which perform or provide information on abortions overseas.

He floated the idea of a 20 percent tax on Mexican imports and (depending on who you ask) either put Mexico in its place or already started to build a (metaphorical) wall between our two countries and set back relations to the point where Poncho Villa’s ghost may decide to invade us again.

Heck, during this week Trump (or as he’s know to most of the world, @realDonaldTrump) even found time to announce an announcement, saying via Twitter that he will announce his Supreme Court pick on the second Thursday of his presidency.

There’s too much there to keep up with. Can you imagine 96 more days of this?!

Love the guy or hate the guy, love his policies or hate his policies, one has to admit that Donald Trump is getting stuff done — and quickly.

And whether management loves me or hates me, instead of writing about the first 100 days of his presidency, I’ve only written about the first 100 hours of his presidency.

I already need to take a nap.
