Why I believe Donald Trump’s key message in his inauguration speech

On Friday, Donald J. Trump was inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States.

One of my favorite lines from Trump’s inauguration speech was when he said, “When you open your heart to patriotism — there is no room for prejudice.”

Prejudice is judging someone based on their looks, their clothes, their skin color, or their vote without having any facts as to who they really are. In other words, to pre-judge.

So many on the left are quick to fill in the blanks with the worst of adjectives when pre-judging those of us who voted for Trump. Perhaps if they stopped and got to know us, they’d realize we’re not racists, xenophobes, sexists or homophobes.

We’re people who love this country, and we want the best for all Americans.

I voted for Donald Trump not because he was a Republican.

I voted for Donald Trump because he was not a Republican.

I voted for Donald Trump not because he has a history of being non-inclusive to those who don’t share my sexuality.

I voted for Donald Trump because he has a well-known history of being tolerant and accepting of those who do not share my sexuality.

I voted for Donald Trump not because I believe he’s going to reverse a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion.

I voted for Donald Trump because he specifically said the law was settled – but I also believe he will crack down on late-term abortions of children that could live outside of the womb.

I voted for Donald Trump not because he was a racist. I voted for Donald Trump because he has been a long-time friend and supporter of people of color and the injustices they’ve suffered.

I voted for Donald Trump not because I thought he was going to discriminate against American Muslims who love this country — our friends and neighbors.

I voted for Donald Trump because I believe he’s going to make sure those he allows in this country will be those who want to live in the greatest country in the world and contribute in a positive way to the melting pot that is America.

I voted for him because I also believe he will do his best to find a way to keep those that want to harm us out.

I didn’t vote for Donald Trump because he’s someone that wants to bomb countries, killing countless innocent civilians because their country isn’t like ours.

I voted for Donald Trump because he wants to work with other countries to destroy evil entities like ISIS, thus saving countless innocent lives and letting people of other countries live the way they like, without fear of being bombed, killed or forced out of their home lands.

I voted for Donald Trump not because he could start World War III as we were warned.

I voted for Donald Trump precisely because I think our country has been reckless in foreign policy, invading other countries, pushing our will on others. Donald Trump has promised those policies will change.

I voted for Donald Trump not because the Russians tricked me into it.

I voted for Donald Trump because I share the same hope as the Russians, and countries around the world, that a change in the aggressive posture from the United States will result in a more cooperative relationship with other nations.

I didn’t vote for Donald Trump because I thought he was going to trample on the constitution.

I voted for Donald Trump because I believe he will honor the U.S. Constitution and protect it from all enemies foreign and domestic.

I didn’t vote for Donald Trump because he’s rich — I voted for Donald Trump because I believe he wants us all to have an opportunity to be rich.

I didn’t vote for Donald Trump because he’s an insider — I voted for Donald Trump because he’s an outsider and has vowed to give the government back to the People. The establishment from both parties did everything they could to make sure “We The People” couldn’t win the election. We won anyway.

I voted for Donald Trump because those in power have taken advantage of that power to enrich themselves and those close to them.

I didn’t vote for Donald Trump because I hate this country.

I voted for Donald Trump because I truly believe he loves this country and will make decisions that are in the best interest of our country and all of us who call it home.

I voted for Donald Trump because I love America and because I know we can do much better than we have. I voted for Donald Trump because I believe in a country of the people, by the people and for the people.

I believe he does, too.
