Suspect in custody after hostage crisis ends at Alabama credit union

Officials said a hostage crisis near the University of Alabama ended peacefully Tuesday when the armed suspect was taken into custody.
Lt. Teena Richardson with the Tuscaloosa Police Department said all the employees at a credit union were unharmed.
No gunshots were heard.
Police said around eight staffers had been held against their will by a man with a gun. He arrived before the building was open.

The credit union is near the university’s law school, which is on an edge of the campus.
Streets have been blocked off and students and employees were told to stay away. Undergraduate classes do not resume from winter break until Wednesday, but law school students have been back campus for a week.
WVTM reported that a 911 call was made saying a man with a gun was inside the building.
