Many films have tried capturing the overall bleak setting of World War II, and succeeded beautifully. Classics such as “Saving Private Ryan” and “Casablanca” depicted their own versions of the war, and crafted stories that would live among people forever.
Christopher Nolan looks to do the same with “Dunkirk”.
Based on the Dunkirk evacuation, the movie looks to focus on the Allied soldiers pinned down on the beaches of Dunkirk, France. Germany had the soldiers surrounded, firing from both air and sea.
The evacuation, or otherwise known as the “Miracle of Dunkirk”, lasted between May 26, 1940, to June 4, 1940. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill delivered his famous “We shall fight on the beaches” address on the fourth of June.
“Dunkirk” notably stars Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy, both who played large roles as Bane and Scarecrow in Nolan’s Batman trilogy films.
The trailer shows the dark, grim setting of war, capturing the mass amounts of destruction by the Axis army.
Nolan’s film is slated for a July 27, 2017, release.
