PHOENIX — Law enforcement has a clear message for motorists in the West Valley on Friday night: Do not drink and drive.
More than a dozen law enforcement agencies will form a task force to pull impaired drivers off the road. Bart Graves with the Arizona Department of Public Safety said officers will flood streets and highways.
“You’ll see municipal police on the highways and you’ll see our troopers on the surface streets,” he said.
Graves said, aside from the physical dangers of drinking and driving, the penalties can be very harsh.
“The fines are extremely high, jail time is mandatory, legal fees are astronomical, people still don’t get it,” he said. “Repeat offenders face certain prison time.”
Graves said law enforcement decided to crackdown on Friday after looking into traffic statistics and other factors with the Arizona Govern’s Office of Highway Safety.
