PHOENIX — Travelers arriving at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport are now able to call rideshare services, such as Uber and Lyft, when they need to be picked up.

“Gateway Airport is known for being just plain easy from roadway to runway,” J. Brian O’Neill, the executive director and CEO of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority, said in a press release. “We are pleased to build upon that reputation by adding additional ground transportation options for our customers and employees.”

The airport said officials decided to approve the new rideshare rules because of passenger demands.

“Visitors to the Phoenix East Valley have embraced Arizona’s sharing economy and these additional services add to the affordability and convenience of visiting our region,” Mesa Mayor John Giles said.

Giles is also the chairman of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority.

Rideshare drivers will be able to pick passengers up and drop them off at a designated spot in front of the baggage claim terminal.

Earlier this year, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport began allowing Uber and Lyft to ferry passengers to and from the facility.
