PHOENIX — A large mall in the Phoenix suburb of Scottsdale will be getting a big facelift soon, it was announced Monday.
In a press release, Scottsdale Fashion Square officials said the mall would be undergoing a large-scale renovation project.
“Scottsdale Fashion Square is the region’s undisputed luxury leader, and we see significant opportunity to better serve this attractive and buoyant metropolitan area for the long term,” Art Coppola, chairman and CEO Macerich, the mall’s owner, said in the release.
The upscale mall will redo the luxury wing that is anchored by Neiman Marcus and add more restaurants and other food choices. The mall will also add a luxury valet service, another concierge, more personal shoppers and a fountain surrounded by a garden.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2017 and the renovated area will be opened in 2018.
Part of the renovation will include an update to the Louis Vuitton store.
“The luxury market in Arizona is strong and on the rise, and this property is the right real estate in the region for our brand,” Anthony Ledru, CEO of Louis Vuitton Americas, said in the release.
Scott Nelson, the senior vice president of development of Macerich, said the company will do its best to keep construction-related inconveniences to a minimum.
“We will do everything in our power to keep shoppers coming in and out of the property and being able to shop their favorite retailers without any conflict,” he said.
There is also a plan to not only add residences and office space, but to build an upscale hotel immediately north of the mall, near Goldwater Boulevard and Scottsdale Road. Nelson said that phase of the project is likely 3-5 years away and is still in the planning phase.
Scottsdale Fashion Square was first opened in 1961 and has grown into a 1.9-million-square-foot shopping area that has more than 200 shops and restaurants. Its average annual sales exceed $650 million.
Between 2012 and 2015, the mall generated an estimated $50 million in sales tax.
