The horse’s trainer, Art Sherman, had said the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner wasn’t likely to run on the New York track if he couldn’t wear the strip, which helps him breathe. The strips are banned at New York Racing Association tracks.
California Chrome’s owners submitted a request to allow the horse to wear a strip on Sunday.
Undefeated California Chrome is chasing history — there have been 11 Triple Crown winners, the last being Affirmed in 1978.
