PHOENIX — Services were scheduled Thursday morning in the West Valley for a respected Phoenix Fire Department captain who was killed in an off-duty accident last week.
Capt. Christopher Fitzmaurice, 45, died the day after Thanksgiving after he was thrown from an all-terrain vehicle he was driving in northern Arizona.
Coconino County Sheriff’s officials said Fitzmaurice, a 20-year department veteran, wasn’t wearing a safety belt.
Investigators said the ATV rolled over and landed on Fitzmaurice, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fitzmaurice and a friend had been elk hunting south of the Grand Canyon and Tusayan.
He is survived by his wife and four daughters.
The United Phoenix Firefighters Association said services would begin at 10:30 a.m. at Christ’s Church of the Valley in Peoria.
The organization created a GoFundMe page to help the family with expenses.
