At least nine people were injured in stabbings, one critically, and a suspect was dead Monday morning after an active shooter was initially reported on the Ohio State University campus.

The attacker has been identified as a student at the Columbus, Ohio university, Abdul Razak Ali Artan, 18, a Somali refugee. He was listed as a legal permanent U.S. resident.

Witnesses told police that someone drove an SUV into a crowd on campus before hitting a parking structure. One of the injured was an officer.

The Columbus Fire Department said two victims were in stable condition.

The student newspaper tweeted that at least one person had been taken from the campus garage in handcuffs. Authorities had clustered around the structure en masse. News outlets began reporting that at least one suspect was dead.

Classes were canceled after the shelter in place was lifted.

Students were warned from the campus’ social media emergency-situations account to “Run Hide Fight.”

Watts Hall is a materials science and engineering building.

A student in a dorm told <ahref=”http://www.cbsnews.com/news/ohio-state-university-active-shooter-on-campus/” target=”_blank”> WBNS-Columbus that he had heard rumors of injuries to students, a professor and a suspected shooter.

Another student, Mike O’Connell, told the Columbus Dispatch he didn’t hear shots, but got the alerts.

“I just had a class over here an hour ago,” he said. “This is insane. I’ve never seen anything like this.”

“Run, hide, fight” is standard protocol for active shooter situations. It means: Run, evacuate if possible; Hide, get silently out of view; or Fight, as a last resort, take action to disrupt or incapacitate the shooter if your life is in imminent danger.

Nearly 60,000 students attend classes at the main campus. Ohio State is one of the nation’s largest universities.
