GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Car parts and glass scattered across Interstate 10 for more than 100 yards.

A wrong-way driver, 24-year-old Sarah Castillo-Cornejo, drove westbound for six miles on eastbound I-10 before slamming head-on into a Greyhound bus from Southern California carrying 35 passengers. Amazingly, the passengers only have minor injuries. 13 of those passengers are being treated at hospitals.

Tim Mason with Arizona Department of Public Safety says it’s remarkable the bus didn’t flip.

“[The bus driver’s] actions prevented more injuries or fatalities. She kept the bus from rolling and hitting other vehicles in the area. It was phenomenal.”

Fifteen-hundred feet of skid marks were behind the bus across several lanes.

Mason says they started receiving 911 calls around 2:30 am.

“This is becoming an epidemic. Today is the catastrophic result of a wrong-way driver. Troopers put their lives in danger trying to intercept this car. In this case, we were unable to get in front of this car before it collided with the bus.”

Mason says onboard video with Greyhound captured everything leading up to the crash. The video will not be made public for several days.

We want to hear from you.
