Phoenix suburb recognized for commitment to data centers, technology

PHOENIX — An East Valley city is the place to be when it comes to data centers.
The city of Mesa has received the Economic Development of the Year award from the Global Data Center Alliance. The GDCA Awards were established to recognize companies, individuals, and communities for excellence in Arizona’s Data Center industry.
Bill Jabjiniak is Mesa’s economic-development director. He said data centers are a great investment.
“It goes well beyond the large capital investment for the initial construction and equipment,” he said. “They continue to receive upgrades to stay relevant.”
Recently, the city also got Apple to locate its $2 billion global command center to the Elliot Road technology corridor. Jabjiniak said the award is just the icing on that recognition cake.
“Our team has worked diligently to make Mesa a premier location for technology companies and to provide assistance to data centers considering Mesa as a place to locate,” he said.
