Ho, ho, ho-liday cheer: Here are some fun activities to do over Christmas weekend

PHOENIX — The Christmas season is right around the corner and let’s face it, once you’re done unwrapping presents, eating food and taking a nap, there’s still going to be a lot of time to kill.
Luckily for you, there’s plenty of holiday-related activities right here in the Valley to make Christmas seem like it will never end (in a good way, of course).
So get out any enjoy your holiday weekend with a few events that each member of the family is sure to enjoy:
Holiday Ice Skating at CitySkate
Time to lace up those skates and hit the ice for a spin at CityScape in downtown Phoenix. Just $15 will get you a pair of skates and the icy experience of a lifetime. Outdoor ice skating in Arizona — always a fun event. It will even be open on Christmas Day, from 5 to 11 p.m. Don’t have time to make it out this Christmas weekend? No worries! The winter wonderland will stay in the Valley until Jan. 8.

Let it Snow!
Bring Christmas to the desert with a little snow. That’s exactly what is going on every night until New Year’s Eve at Tempe Marketplace, Desert Ridge Marketplace and Westgate Entertainment District. Flakes of white snow will fall from the sky then disappear without a trace. The best part? Not having to shovel it out of your driveway. (Score!)

Phoenix Ballet presents “The Nutcracker”
Take your Christmas spirit to the stage this season as the Phoenix Ballet hosts four showings of “The Nutcracker.” Gather the whole family to Phoenix’s Orpheum Theatre for a showing of the acclaimed ballet, performed by internationally-recognized dance stars for a night that you will never forget.
- Thursday: 7 p.m., Friday: 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Saturday: 12 p.m.
ZooLights at Phoenix Zoo
Experience a light spectacle unlike any other as Phoenix Zoo continues the tradition with its 25th annual ZooLights display. Celebrate Christmas with hundreds of light exhibits, including multiple 3D and 4D displays new to ZooLights this year. Entrance prices vary from $10.95 to $19.95 depending on the evening, with children under the age of 2 admitted free of charge.
