Raytheon plans expansion in southern Arizona, will hire about 2,000

PHOENIX — Raytheon, a missile supplier in southern Arizona, is planning to expand and hire about 2,000 people, Gov. Doug Ducey announced in a Friday email.
“Increasing Raytheon’s infrastructure and job growth in Arizona is a major win for all of us, and the result of strong partnerships statewide,” Ducey said in the release.
The 2,000 jobs will be added over a five-year period. The company will hire all skill levels but will place an emphasis on engineering and technical positions.
“Raytheon’s decision to expand its operations in Tucson is excellent news not only for the region, but for our entire state’s economy,” Sandra Watson, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, said in the release.
The expansion is expected to add billions of dollars to Arizona’s economy over the next decade.
“These rewarding, high technology jobs will support Raytheon’s growth and bring even more top talent to this region,” Dr. Taylor W. Lawrence, Raytheon Missile Systems president, said in a press release.
Raytheon has 61,000 employees worldwide and generated $23 billion in sales last year.
The aerospace and defense company is based in Waltham, Massachusetts. Its Arizona facility is located in Tucson.
