PHOENIX — Arizona State Treasurer Jeff DeWit said that he loved his job but would consider an offer from President-elect Donald Trump, whose national campaign he worked on as an officer.

DeWit, the campaign’s COO, told KTAR’s Arizona’s Morning News on Monday that he had a one-way ticket back to Arizona but that “I certainly would have a home (in the new administration), no question about it, I think.

“It’s something I need to consider.”

Trump has begun naming staffers, starting with Reince Priebus as his chief of staff and Breitbart News executive Stephen Bannon as senior counselor.

Those moves were announced Sunday.

“Both of them have been traveling with Mr. Trump for some time,” DeWit said. “They work really well as a team and they both provide invaluable advice and service for Mr. Trump.

“It makes sense to get them in the administration.”

DeWit has been traveling with Trump for some time, as well.

He was named to the volunteer post in July and has been an active supporter of the billionaire since early in the campaign.

He had been the state’s campaign chair before being named COO.

“I didn’t do this to get a job, I didn’t do this to leave Arizona, I did this because I just wanted to see Donald Trump get elected,” DeWit said.

Trump’s election victory has been the cause of several prolonged protests across the country.

DeWit said the protests were free speech, “but at the same time, if the election went the other way, if it were Trump supporters (protesting), the Democrats would be saying they need to accept the results.

“… It’s not helpful, not helpful to anybody.”

The 43-year-old, who has a background in business, took office in 2014. He has said he would not run for re-election in 2018.

We want to hear from you.
