Get excited, fans: Second ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ trailer drops online

Is it Dec. 16 yet?
The second trailer for one of the most-anticipated films of the year, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” hit YouTube on Thursday morning and was well on its way to a half-million views within a few hours.
And that’s not including views on other sites or social media.
The trailer revealed a surprising amount about the film. While the first merely showed what director Gareth Edwards had come up with for his sci-fi heist film, the second trailer really brings the plot (or so we assume) into focus.
We already knew that “Rogue One” would star a female protagonist, Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones. We knew she was someone who came from a criminal background who was recruited by the Rebel Alliance to help defeat the Empire. We knew that new weapon was the Death Star.
And now we know why Erso was recruited.
(SPOILER ALERT FROM HERE ON)
Her father, played by Mads Mikkelsen, is apparently the man behind the Death Star’s infamous planet-killing laser cannon, so we’re guessing this is going to be slightly more complicated than simply stealing some plans.
We also get our first look at the return one of the most famous movie villains of all time — Darth Vader.
“Rogue One” is the first official “Star Wars” film to stray from the original canon, but based on the past two trailers, we’re pretty sure fans are going to love it just as much as the original films.
