Justice organization: Arizona is home to 18 hate groups

The Southern Poverty Law Center lists 18 hate groups in the state of Arizona for 2016.
The organization, which aims to fight hate by teaching tolerance and seeking justice, created its hate map by compiling information from public websites, publications, local law enforcement reports, news stories and field sources. It lists hate groups as those that have “beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics.”
In Arizona, the hate groups are diverse: “general hate,” anti-immigration, anti-LGBT and hate based on race are included.
Four are listed as statewide while the Phoenix metropolitan area is home to six. Four more are located in Tucson, while the rest are elsewhere in Arizona.
Overall, the Southern Poverty Law Center recognizes 892 hate groups in the United States this year.
California has the most hate groups of any state with 68.
