Cindy McCain to be honored by Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards

PHOENIX — Cindy McCain, wife of Sen. John McCain of Arizona, has been named among the winners of the Muhammad Ali humanitarian awards.
The Louisville, Kentucky-based center announced Tuesday morning that Cindy McCain would be presented with its lifetime achievement award at a September event. She has spent years working to end human trafficking.

Cindy McCain is co-chair of the governor’s council on human trafficking. Then-Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed an anti-trafficking bill in July 2014. The foundation for the Legislature’s was built on the work of the Governor’s Task Force on Human Trafficking, which McCain co-chaired.
Cindy McCain testified before a U.S. Senate committee early this year that the United States should be the leader in the global fight against human trafficking.
Academy Award-winning actor Lou Gossett Jr. will receive the award for education. He established a foundation encouraging young adults to live racially diverse and culturally inclusive lives.
Others to be honored included actress Sheryl Lee Ralph and singer Jon Secada.
The ceremony was scheduled for Sept. 17.
