Rock, but no roll: Guns N’ Roses concert to snarl traffic in West Valley

PHOENIX — Guns N’ Roses fans may be ready to rock and roll on Monday night, but concert traffic may have West Valley drivers singing “Welcome to the Jungle.”
The Arizona Department of Transportation is calling for Arizona Cardinals-like crowds on Valley roadways ahead of Monday night’s concert at University of Phoenix Stadium.
“Concert fan traffic will be blending into the regular westbound [Interstate] 10 rush hour, so it really does come down to giving yourself a little extra travel time,” Doug Nintzel with ADOT said.
Nintzel said I-10 will not be the only freeway affected by fans.
“Know that it will be heavier traffic on I-10 westbound and also along Loop 101 in either direction in the area of the stadium near Glendale Avenue,” he said.
Fans headed to see Guns N’ Roses should also plan to follow the NFL’s clear-bag policy, meaning only clutches or small clear bags will be allowed through the gates.
The doors for the concert will open at 6:30 p.m. The main act is not expected to take the stage until about 9:20 p.m.
