PHOENIX — Police in Tempe said 2-year-old twins remained hospitalized in critical condition after nearly drowning in a hot tub.
Detective Lily Duran said Monday that the boy and girl were being treated at a Mesa hospital, a day after they fell into an unfenced backyard spa pool.
Their mother performed CPR until emergency crews arrived.
A 911 call reporting the children had been found in the hot tub in Tempe came in around 11:15 a.m. on Sunday.
Police said the family was willingly answering investigators’ questions. Duran said it was likely the mother turned away from the children for a short time before finding them in the tub.
Duran said the spa water was not very hot.
