Minor injuries reported in NJ ferry accident

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) – A ferry boat headed from the World Financial Center in New York hit a pier in Jersey City Friday afternoon and four people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.
Ferry operator New York Waterway said the boat, owned by Goldman Sachs, was carrying 24 people and several fell during the accident around 4:20 p.m.
The Jersey City Medical Center said that seven people were evaluated for injuries at the scene and that two passengers and two crew members were taken to the hospital. All four were released from the hospital by Friday night.
Jersey City said in a statement that the ferry hit a pier on the Hudson River, which was closed while city construction officials examined it for damages. The pier is a few hundred yards from the ferry terminal where the boat usually lands.
“Nobody got hurt that bad. It was a lucky day,” passenger Hatidza Becovic, who said she hurt her knees and elbows in the accident, told The Jersey Journal.
Goldman Sachs is headquartered at the World Financial Center and has offices in Jersey City, but the boat _ named York _ is operated by Waterway and available for public use. The York and another ferry owned by Goldman Sachs, Jersey, began commuter service in February.
No cause has been determined for the accident, but the city said an investigation by the Jersey City Police Department, U.S. Coast Guard and NYPD Harbor Unit is ongoing.
No pollution had been reported as a result of the accident, said Coast Guard Public Affairs Specialist 3rd Class Ali Flockerzi.
