S. Calif. football player critically hurt in game

CORONA, Calif. (AP) – A Southern California high school football player is in critical condition after injuring his spinal cord during a game.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise (
http://bit.ly/1aTQOCn) reports Monday that 16-year-old Jordan Walker of Santiago High School in Corona was trying to make a tackle in the first quarter Friday night when he went down, lay motionless, and was taken away in an ambulance.
Athletic Director Steve Mitchell says Walker had spinal surgery Saturday. He says Walker is breathing independently, but isn’t certain if he’s regained feeling in his extremities.
Walker’s parents issued a statement saying that while critical, he’s responsive and his vital signs are stable.
They say they place no blame and have no hard feelings toward Walker’s teammates, coaches or opponents, and praised both school and medical officials for his treatment.
