On Aug. 5, 2012, NASA’s rover on Mars, cleverly named Curiosity, made its first journey on the Red Planet and was thus born.
Friday marks the fourth birthday for the rover.
Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) is a chemistry lab on Curiosity and is the most “well-equipped chemistry lab” NASA has ever sent to Mars according to the video.
An identical unit back at NASA tests the experiments they plan to run on Mars, including analyzing soil samples.
The Curiosity rover played a “Happy Birthday To You” song on Mars. Anyone who happened to be listening on the planet was greeted by the rover and the song.
