ATLANTA (AP) – Two giant pandas born at Atlanta’s zoo will soon be leaving for China.
Zoo Atlanta announced Wednesday that Xi Lan, who’s 5, and Po, who’s 3, are set to leave Nov. 24 for China’s Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
Under a deal between China and the U.S., all giant pandas originally from China are lent out to foreign zoos. They and any cubs they produce must all return to China eventually.
Their older brother, Mei Lan, made the trip to China in 2010 when he was 3.
Zoo Atlanta plans to hold special farewell activities for the pair this Saturday.
Meanwhile, Mei Lun and Mei Huan, twin cubs born to Lun Lun in July, recently started walking and will soon be on public display with their mother.
