Women: UConn failed to protect us from sex assault

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Four women who say they were sexually assaulted while students at the University of Connecticut have added a federal lawsuit to a civil rights complaint filed against the school.
In the lawsuit filed Friday in Hartford, the women allege that UConn failed to protect them and responded to their complaints with deliberate indifference or worse.
They are among seven women who recently asked for a federal Title IX investigation of the school.
The women say they were outraged when school President Susan Herbst called their assertions of a dismissive response “astonishingly misguided and demonstrably untrue.”
University spokeswoman Stephanie Reitz says the school will carefully assess the lawsuit’s allegations and does everything it can to ensure it complies with the law and responds to complaints with sensitivity and fairness.
