1 killed in small plane crash in northern Arizona

PHOENIX — At least one person was killed when a small plane crashed aircraft crash near Flagstaff late Tuesday.
The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office said people began calling 911 to report hearing a loud noise that could have been a plane crash near State Route 89A south of Flagstaff.
Department spokeswoman Erika Wiltenmuth said the victim had been tentatively identified as 76-year-old Homer “Mac” McClure. He was alone in the aircraft.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said preliminary information indicated that the twin-engine plane crashed at about 8:30 p.m. after taking off from the Flagstaff airport.
Sheriff’s deputies and crews from the Highlands Fire Department found the wreckage near Forest Highlands and Kachina Village.
Part of the highway was closed for the investigation.
