PHOENIX — Eight players were removed from a Phoenix-area high school football team after they partook in hazing, a school official said Friday.
The Paradise Valley Unified School District said the students took part in the hazing while attending the Paradise Valley High School football training camp in El Cajon, California.
“We have strict rules regarding hazing that are clearly communicated in our student handbook. We take these allegations very seriously, and we will not tolerate hazing, bullying or abuse of any kind,” district spokesperson Becky Kelbaugh said in the emailed statement.
Few details are available on the incident itself. The school district said it would not identify the eight students because of privacy concerns.
The incident was reported to police.
The El Cajon Police Department said it was investigating a hazing incident but would not divulge further details.
