Conn. businessman fails to end helicopter ban

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) – A Connecticut businessman who wants to sell helicopter rides to commuters frustrated with railroad delays has failed to get the idea off the ground.

http://bit.ly/GAVYsG) reports that Ray Leavitt said his company, EvoLux Transportation, wants to persuade Stamford officials to revise ordinances and lift a ban on helicopter landings in the city. There are exceptions for emergency medical trips and VIP visits.
Local public safety officials on Monday rejected his efforts to expedite approval of a temporary helipad to capitalize on Metro-North’s disruption.
EvoLux has been promoting a limited-time offer of $300 a seat each way between Connecticut and heliports in New York City.
Train service on the New Haven Line has been slowed since an electric cable failed. Full service is expected by Tuesday.
