The spotlight was on Arizona for a few moments Monday afternoon at the Democratic National Convention.

Arizona congressman Raul Grijalva took the stage shortly after 3:00 p.m. Arizona time.

“I stand here in support of Hillary Clinton,” Grijalva announced to the crowd.

Grijalva said the generation coming of age today is looking to the Democratic Party to stay true to the party’s great ideals.

“Their idealism, their optimism, their belief in America – they are no different than the idealism that built this nation,” Grijalva said.

He recalled the era when he came of age, admiring Democrats who fought for civil rights, women’s rights, clean air and water and peace.

“I wouldn’t be here today supporting our nominee if the Democrats of 50 years ago hadn’t had their courage. I wouldn’t be here if our party was built on the likes of Donald Trump, who’s trying to make our country meaner, hateful, more divided and more fearful,” Grijalva said.

Grijalva said he was proud to be part of a movement that was going to beat Trump and help elect Clinton.

On Wednesday, congressman Ruben Gallego and former congresswoman Gabby Giffords are slated to speak.
