A 12-year-old boy died Friday after Phoenix police said he was hiking with an adult male on Sidewinder Trail.
Police said they were called to Phoenix Children’s Hospital at around 5 p.m. in response to a welfare check. When officers arrived, they learned of a 12-year-old boy being airlifted to PCH. The boy was in extremely critical condition but later died.
Phoenix police said detectives were called to the desert area to initiate a death investigation.
According to police, initial investigation indicates the victim and the male went to the trail for a hike in the afternoon hours.
Both the adult male and the victim had at least two liters of water with them, according to police. The adult male attempted to carry the victim off the trail, and also tried to call for help, but wasn’t able to do either.
So the friend had to leave the victim to run for assistance.
Phoenix fire arrived at the trail and airlifted the boy to the hospital.
