PHOENIX — In case the melted lawn flamingos weren’t a clue already, a heat warning was issued for Friday and Saturday in central Arizona.

The warning, which will remain active until midnight Saturday night, was issued by the National Weather Service.

The affected areas are Maricopa and Northwest Pinal counties, which includes the entire Phoenix metropolitan area.

Temperatures are expected to reach anywhere up to 116 degrees, with overnight lows near 90 degrees.

It is recommended that people drink more water than usual during the warning and avoid alcohol, sugar and caffeine. Avoid being outside too long, but if it is a necessity, try to wear light colored clothing and wide-brimmed hats to keep your head and body cooler.

Phoenix Parks and Recreation made a list of how hikers should prepare during the heat warning, if they insist on being outside.

The heat is nothing new to those living in Arizona, as three towns in the state were just named to ClimateCentral.org’s list of the fastest-warming cities in the United States.

We want to hear from you.
