Gov. Doug Ducey hopes to help deliver Arizona to Donald Trump in November

Jul 21, 2016, 10:04 AM | Updated: 3:16 pm

CLEVELAND — Gov. Doug Ducey said he hopes that he, along with the state Republican Party, can deliver Arizona to Donald Trump in November’s general election.

“There’s only so much time between now and Nov. 8,” Ducey told Arizona’s Morning News on Thursday. “That’s his most precious commodity and I want him to be in battleground states.”

Ducey said he wants Trump to let the Arizona delegation at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland work to deliver their state to the nominee.

“That’s part of the job of the delegation that’s here and the leader of the party,” he said.

But Trump will have a little work to do. He’s scheduled to give a speech Thursday to close out the RNC. Ducey said he hopes Trump focuses more on proving that he’s the right candidate for America than why presumed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton is wrong.

“People don’t want Hillary Clinton, so I think Donald Trump should talk about why people should vote for him,” he said.

To do that, Trump needs to focus on the importance of the upcoming election on the Supreme Court, making law enforcement and the safety of officers a priority and his desire to “turn Washington, D.C. upside-down,” Ducey said.
