Republican National Convention provides grade-A people-watching, especially media

At the the first day of the Republican National Convention, I’ve watched people spill cups of coffee, trip over cords and walk around with that look on their face.
You know, THAT look. The look that says “I’m not sure where I’m supposed to be.”
But a lot of people are supposed to be here, and I mean a LOT!
This is the most-covered political convention, media-wise, in U.S. history. More than 15,000 journalists and pundits are here in Cleveland to bring you every single angle, including angles where there should be rounded corners.
By the way, some of those people in the media are diametrically opposed to Donald Trump’s campaign. And I don’t mean the Donna Brazilles and the Van Jones of the major cable channels, aka the buttoned-down Democrats.
Nope, I mean fringe media outlets. Uber-liberal ones, such as the Pacifica Foundation and Free Speech TV, are welcome here, even if their space was possibly provided begrudgingly.
Don’t worry, they’ll be OK. The Republicans, that is. The liberal outlets here at the Republican Convention are probably outnumbered 10-to-1 by the conservative ones, some who have been accused of accepting money to support Donald Trump’s campaign.
And there are characters galore among the media. Take, for example, the guy from Buffalo who started broadcasting next door to us after we got off the air.
I think he’s older than me, but he’s got the really long hair. I fully expected him to have tear-away pants and broadcast in a loin cloth while playing an amazing guitar solo!
And I can’t forget the guy in a red suit, complete with a red top hat. I don’t think it’s Santa, but it does feel a little like Christmas for people-watchers.
