Charlotte Douglas airport laments day of irritants

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – Bees and coyotes don’t typically top the list of air travel irritants, but they accounted for just some of the headaches earlier this week at one North Carolina airport.
The Charlotte Observer reports a swarm of bees prevented a gate agent from pushing a US Airways flight away from the gate Wednesday at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. A beekeeper was called and the flight departed for Indianapolis more than two hours behind schedule.
Wildlife officers were dispatched after at least one coyote was seen near a runway that afternoon.
Then flames were reported on a moving walkway on Concourse E. The fire was brought under control, but smoke filled the concourse, which was evacuated.
The newspaper also reported a Rome-bound flight was diverted to Philadelphia after experiencing mechanical problems.
