Depleted uranium stash forces partial evacuation of Fla. airport

Depleted uranium has been discovered at Opa-locka Executive Airport near Miami and a hazmat team is on the scene, according to reports. and NBC Miami reported the material was found in a 55-gallon drum inside a locked airplane that is no longer in use.

Minimal levels of radiations have been detected, authorities said.

Most deplete uranium is a byproduct of the production of enriched uranium, which is commonly used in nuclear reactors and weapons. It has significantly less radiation than natural uranium.

No other details were immediately available.
