Whether your teen has never held a paintbrush or is the next Picasso, they are all welcome at local art camps.

The city of Glendale is hosting free, week-long art camps starting Monday. There will also be camps next week and in late August.

Teens will have a chance to paint, draw and sculpt during the camp. They will also have a chance to create a figure using wire, clay, paints and other material.

Artist Christy Puetz is leading the camps, and she said the camps are great ways for teen artists to try new things.

“No matter how their pieces are, there’s no right or wrong so that everybody feels success at the end of their projects,” Puetz said.

The title of the camp is Imagination Arts. Teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18 are welcome.

“Hopefully it gets them excited about just using their imagination and taking it [in] whatever direction that they’re comfortable with,” Puetz said.

She said cell phones are not allowed to be used during the camp unless the students need it for a visual reference when creating their art. Puetz said teens get so immersed in the art that they usually forget about their phones.

Attendance for each five-day camp is limited to the first 18 teens that sign up.

Camps starting this week are at the Rose Lane Community Center and at the O’Neil Recreation Center.
