PHOENIX — An Arizona state senator will speak at next week’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland, it was announced Friday.

In a press release, Sen. Kimberly Yee said she is scheduled to speak Monday at about 11:30 a.m. Arizona time at the massive gathering of delegates.

“It is an honor to be a chosen as a convention speaker,” she said in a release.

Yee will address the convention on its opening at the downtown Quicken Loans Arena, which is scheduled to run through Thursday.

“Since a young age, I’ve watched the Republican National Convention and to be on the stage on Monday is a perspective I never would have imagined,” she said.

Yee, who represents the 20th Legislative District that contains part of northwest Phoenix and part of Glendale, has been labeled by a rising star as the Republican National Committee.

It is unknown what topics Yee will be speaking on, but the first night of convention speakers will reportedly follow a Benghazi theme.
