PHOENIX — A food maker is planning to open up in the Phoenix area and hire hundreds of Valley residents, Gov. Doug Ducey’s office announced Wednesday.

Ducey’s office said SK Food Group Inc. plans to build a 212,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Tolleson and hire about 550 people.

“SK Food Group is the latest in a string of manufacturing wins for Arizona,” Ducey said in a press release.

Ducey said he met with the company earlier this year and sold them on opening in Arizona because of the benefits his state could offer, “including infrastructure and affordable operating costs.”

The governor’s office said the food maker is a “premium food brands company” and a leader in the manufacturing and wholesale food industry.

The company has two other locations in the United States and two additional operations in Canada.

“We are very excited to be locating our next facility in the greater Phoenix area,” SK Food Group President and CEO Steve Sposari said. “The logistics infrastructure and access to available labor made the decision relatively easy for our management team to invest in the area.

“We look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with the greater Phoenix area while at the same time becoming a model corporate citizen.”

The Seattle-based SK Food Group makes sandwiches and burgers, among other items.
