PHOENIX — A Valley storm chaser decided to trade in the dry heart for humidity to create one epic tornado timelapse video.
According to Sploid, Scottsdale wedding photographer and storm chaser Mike Olbinski made an incredible video showcasing the kind of weather Arizonans can barely fathom — tornado season.
The six-minute video titled Vorticity is comprised of over 60,000 edited frames of timelapse sequences.
The images were captured over the span of two months of traveling. It was filmed in 18 days, comprised of storms in nine different states and Olbinski drove a total of 20,000 miles to get the footage.
Despite the intense music and dangerous subject matter the video begins and ends with sweet sentiments from the photographer to his wife.
The video begins with a quote, “Not all who wander are lost… some are just storm chasing,” with the quote credited to, “my wife.”
It later ends with dedications and thanks to those involved, as well as a message for his wife, “Jina… Thank you for keeping our family running when I’m on the road and allowing me to wander.”
While the video made be intense and action-filled, the personal touches that bookend the video mark the calm that comes before — and after — a big storm.
