PHOENIX — There are few ways to beat the brutal Arizona summer heat than a nice, cold scoop ice cream — or several scoops.

Thankfully, you don’t need an excuse to have a couple extra servings on Sunday, which is National Ice Cream Day.

While some foods — OK, most — seem to have their own special day at random, National Ice Cream Day is actually a federally-recognized holiday. A resolution proposing the holiday was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan in 1984.

National Ice Cream Day just so happens to fall in the middle of National Ice Cream Month.

While we suspect some collusion led to this, we’re fine with it. After all, when the mercury tops 100 degrees, any excuse to eat something frozen is a good thing.

So without further ado, here are some of the best ice cream spots in the Phoenix area where you can celebrate National Ice Cream Day.

There’s some good ones on here and we wouldn’t blame you if you felt the need to try more than one!

We want to hear from you.
