Prosecutor: iPad theft defendants ambushed victim

LAS VEGAS (AP) – A prosecutor in Las Vegas compared two men accused of killing a high school student who refused to let go of his iPad with wild animals ambushing a weak victim.
Prosecutor Robert Daskas made his comments Thursday before a judge who ordered 21-year-old Michael Samuel Solid and 18-year-old Jacob “Jake” Dismont held without bail pending a June 7 preliminary hearing.
Solid and Dismont are charged with conspiracy, murder and robbery in the May 16 killing of 15-year-old Marcos Vicente Arenas several blocks from Bonanza High School. Each could face life in prison if convicted.
Solid’s lawyer, David Schieck (SHEEK), declined comment outside court. Dismont’s attorney, Jeff Banks, didn’t immediately respond to messages.
Police call the case a fatal example of grab-and-run personal computer thefts dubbed “Apple picking.”
