Official issues call to action after multiple murders in Phoenix neighborhood

PHOENIX — A city councilman is issuing a call to action to a Phoenix neighborhood after multiple people were murdered, possibly by the same person or group.

“If you see something, if you hear something, it’s important that you say something,” Councilman Daniel Valenzuela said.

Police believe five homicides — one in April and four in June — could be related. Valenzuela said he has been in contact with police officers about the murders and said it is a top priority for the Maryvale precinct.

“It’s our job to support our officers and of course continue to spread the message of this Silent Witness reward,” Valenzuela said.

Silent Witness is offering a reward up to $11,000 for information leading to an arrest. Valenzuela said he would advocate for that reward to be higher.

“We want to get the responsible party or parties, whatever the case may be, off the street,” Valenzuela said.

He said Maryvale is a strong, resilient community. He added that residents are not hiding in fear in their homes and feel safe despite the crimes.

“These are people that are bringing their children [and] their families out to parks,” Valenzuela said. “They’re coming out to the community center, they’re visiting the libraries and they’re visiting their neighbors.

Anyone who may have information about the suspects in these homicide cases is urged to contact Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.

We want to hear from you.
