58-year-old William Nelson is in custody after following his estranged wife, shooting at her car and later exiting his vehicle armed when Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop.
Saturday night, Nelson followed his estranged wife in his car and when she slowed down to make a turn, he pulled alongside her and fired a shot that broke her car window. She was not hit.
Shortly after, Nelson was pulled over for a traffic stop. When he exited the vehicle armed with his handgun, a deputy shot him in the upper right leg and Nelson went down. He is in custody.
According to a statement from YCSO, Nelson “will apparently survive the injury.”
