PHOENIX — After less than a year in business, a downtown Tempe brewery cleaned up at the 2016 North American Beer Awards.
Pedal Haus Brewery, located near Seventh Street and Mill Avenue, received high accolades for four of their most popular brews.
The local brewery’s “Doc” Märzen Bavarian-style lager brought home the gold in the Märzen-Oktoberfest Lager category.
Their other notable brews were the maibock, kölsch and Scottish ale, all receiving silver medals.
However, receiving awards is not out of the ordinary for Pedal Haus. The brewery also received a gold medal at the International Beer Competition in April for one of their unique brews, Dortmunder.
The local brewery competed against large household names such as MillerCoors and Anheuser-Busch, but was also the stand out among other local competitors, such as the Prescott Brewing Company.
Despite winning major awards and quickly becoming a local favorite, Pedal Haus has temporarily closed their doors while they are remodeling to expand capacity.
The local spot is expected to reopen in late September.
