PHOENIX — Students taking summer courses at Phoenix-area community colleges may soon notice a slight uptick in the average age of their classmates.
Maricopa Community Colleges has announced that all classes taken by those 65 and older will be half-off during the summer months at all 10 campuses beginning July 1.
“Many courses that are filled by 65 and over students are art and music and what we call PED — or physical education courses,” Heidi Capriotti with the organization said.
The discounted rate will see seniors paying just $43 per credit hour.
“Any resident who is eligible for our in-state tuition can take advantage of this rate,” Capriotti said. “The requirements are that they fill out a special form … and enroll in a credit course after the first day of the class.”
Audited classes also count under the discounted rate.
The offer excludes non-credit courses or clock-hour courses.
