GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) – Officials at a southern North Carolina hospital are rethinking plans for a newly adopted “Cheat Death” slogan.
Caromont CEO Randall Kelley says the New Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gaston County is reconsidering the campaign after criticism and negative reaction.
The hospital unveiled its new slogan Thursday, saying it was meant to promote a healthy community by preventing illness in the first place. The next day, county commissioners said they were overwhelmed by negative reaction from the community and hospital workers and asked officials to reconsider.
Commissioners were also upset that they weren’t consulted about the marketing plan. The county owns the hospital building and the land it sits on.
Kelley says the slogan was never meant to offend or incite anyone.
