Some Colo. sheriffs oppose more gun control

DENVER (AP) – With President Barack Obama visiting Colorado to discuss gun control, some of the state’s sheriffs are speaking out against more restrictions.
Justin Smith of Larimer County was among sheriffs who gathered near where the president is meeting with law enforcement and community leaders Wednesday. The sheriffs are slamming new regulations Gov. John Hickenlooper recently signed into law as unconstitutional.
Obama is trying to put pressure on Congress to pass federal gun control legislation.
Smith dismissed Obama’s visit as “a slap in the face to all Coloradans.”
Colorado has gone further than any state outside the Northeast in passing new gun laws. The state now prohibits the sale of magazines that hold more than 15 bullets and requires background checks for all private gun sales.
